Cultivating the Future: Interns Dive into Hands-On Experience at Plant Path with BioAg PRO Internship Program

In partnership with BioAg PRO, a prominent internship program that connects students with opportunities in the agriculture and plant science sector, Plant Path is thrilled to offer a unique hands-on learning opportunity to students. This program aims to provide interns with training and the chance to explore the diverse facets of the agriculture industry.

Our home office is excited to host interns who will not only gain valuable insights into their potential careers but also actively contribute to the advancement of plant science and the food production system.

BioAg PRO offers a comprehensive program focused on providing interactive learning experiences for students in the agriculture industry. The program is designed to educate students on the latest technologies and practices in agriculture and plant science within a 5-6 month duration. Interns will complete over 160 hours of training, including valuable fieldwork and career development all while being paid– ensuring accessibility for all students. We are excited to collaborate with this program as it presents an exceptional opportunity for students to dive into the agriculture industry and explore innovative practices that drive sustainable farming forward.

What a day in the life of an intern at Plant Path looks like

During our 160+ hours with our interns we are sharing the latest technologies and practices in agriculture but more specifically in stevia plant production. From precision agriculture techniques to crop protection strategies, interns are equipped with the knowledge to address the challenges faced by the agriculture industry today. Plant Path’s Breeding Lead, Zack Shearin, provides insight into the day-to-day activities of our interns.

We like to give our interns a big picture perspective of our operations. From the greenhouse to field production, our interns are really exposed to all parts of our process. They get to work hands-on with our team, planting stevia, taking care of the plants, and collecting phenotypic data in the field. They get valuable experience in all parts of our operations.”

Meet, Alyssa

Alyssa, an intern in the BioAg PRO program, shared her perspective on what initially sparked her interest in agriculture and plant science. With a background in biomedical research, she was ready to explore the agriculture industry side of things.

While I enjoyed the depth and detail of that work, I wanted to engage more meaningfully with environmental work and food systems. Agricultural work was the perfect combination for me.

With an interest in expanding her understanding in these areas and the importance of gaining an immersive experience in a research context, BioAg PRO program has been a great fit for her.

I am hoping to see how things like plant production and field work are done, especially in the context of research but also generally. I have enjoyed seeing how plant assets are cared for and also the challenges of managing plant production systems.

Alyssa also shared her interests in how agriculture research includes farmers and how agricultural practices impact the environment. Through the internship program, Alyssa hopes to gain insights into these areas of interest, while also acquiring the tools and knowledge to navigate the challenges and capitalize on the opportunities presented in the field of agriculture.

Alyssa, we’re glad you’re here!

Supporting Future Professionals

As advocates for the next generation of agricultural leaders, Plant Path and BioAg PRO are proud to offer a paid internship program that ensures interns receive fair compensation for their commitment and hard work.

“Part of our culture is based on building the skillsets of all of our employees and supporting them whenever opportunities for development arise. Hosting internships fits very naturally at Plant Path and gives us a chance to interact with some great potential team members at the beginning of their careers in agriculture.” – Zack Shearin

Supporting future professionals in their career development is crucial for fostering a strong agriculture workforce and ensuring continued growth in plant science. We believe by investing in training programs, mentorships, and opportunities for hands-on experience we can help cultivate the skills and talents of emerging plant science professionals.

The BioAg PRO internship program at Plant Path represents a notable step forward in equipping aspiring individuals with the knowledge, skills, and firsthand experience required to thrive in the agriculture industry. Mercedes Murua, our CSO and Co Founder at Plant Path shares our excitement of hosting the next generation of plant scientists.

“The program is focused on closing the gap between education and industry needs. By supporting internships at Plant Path we feel we are making a difference in the local community, by giving the students the hands-on training, skills development, and professional connections that they are looking for” Mercedes Murua

Our team would like to thank BioAg PRO for the opportunity to be a part of the internship program and all their dedicated efforts towards its success. We are excited to have our interns join us on site and looking towards the promising future they hold in transforming the world of agriculture through innovative practices and a passion for sustainable farming.
